By Paul Fabre
n.pl, n.d.. General wear. Partially separated at folds. Crease folds.. Poisson D'Avril is a love poem written in French from the perspective of a man in exile, who is asking a fish to deliver a message of love to his lady, Henriette Franquine. The poem's use of a fish to deliver the love missive, is also a reference to April Fools Day, or as it is known in France, as Poisson D'Avril, or April Fish Day. Within the poem this is acknowledged by the verses (roughly translated) "Because the one I entrust to you

, o god of love, despite it being April Fool's/Fish Day

.... he is a faithful messenger,

who speaks frankly without the slightest detour,

and who will known how to tell my beauty,

how true have all my oaths of love been." The poem is written by Paul Fabre. On the front is a black and white illustration of a fish. Single fold, single sided. OCLC 0 (March 2021). Measures 6 1/2" x 4 1/4" (folded), 8 1/2" x 6 1/2" (unfolded).
