The 1st edition (c. 1939) of this surprisingly charming and elegant travel guide to Shanghai. "Photographed and depicted" with great skill by Ellen Thorbecke, wonderfully illustrated throughout in rich color by Friedrich Schiff. Solid and VG in its pictorial boards, with vertical tape-ghosts to the pastedowns and endsheets. Otherwise, very clean internally. And in a crisp, VG to VG+ dustjacket, with very light creasing and abrading --and several small closed tears-- along the top-edges. Still though, very presentable and solid.
