By Jacob R. Eckfeldt; William E. Du Bois
New York: George P. Putnam, 1851. Very Good +. New York: George P. Putnam, 1851. Second Edition. Octavo (23 cm); publisher's dark brown cloth with blind and gilt stamping, rebacked and retouched at corners; 72, xvipp. + 10ads [bound together with The Merchant's and Banker's Almanac for 1852, of which only 16 pages are present]; five (5) plates of engravings, collated complete. Previous owner name in pencil at first free endsheet. Endsheets lightly foxed and some pages show offsetting, particularly at the engraved plates, otherwise pages clean. A Very Good or better copy, expertly repaired.

The second edition of the popular 1850 volume which had real Californian gold ore samples included in it. This revised and enlarged edition lacks any real gold, but must have been a well-used reference for the previous owner, Dr. Henry R. Baldwin of New Brunswick, New Jersey.
