Moderate toning to interior, light foxing in places, leaf of unrelated notes in contemporary hand tipped-in to renewed endleaf, nineteenth-century owner inscription, "Wm. Johnson's," to head of title page. $350. * "Third" edition, a reprint of the second London edition, 1785. First published in 1768, this well-regarded textbook for aspiring lawyers went through five editions, the last in 1822 (reissued in 1828). Marvin notes: "Elegance of diction, appropriateness of illustration, and novelty of method combine to make Eunomus a most attractive and instructive book. The origin and spirit of legal principles, the practice of the Courts, and information of general professional interest, are carefully examined and soundly explained." This copy may have been owned by William Johnson [1769-1848], the notable New York lawyer and New York Chancery and Supreme Court reporter. This is a scarce imprint.
