- Soft Cover

[Richmond?]: [Not identified], 1881. Soft Cover. Good binding. A folding map, in worn printed wrappers; the wrappers are 3 /18” x 1 7/8”; the map itself when unfolded is 9 1/2” x 14 1/4”; the wrappers are chipped, not affecting any text; the folded map is separated at several of the folds; it has a “Key” in the top corner identifying various historic sites in Richmond; it is printed in black and white.~~The printing on the rear cover: “Presented | with the compliments | of J. S. Dodson, | Proprietor of ? American Hotel | 12th and Main Streets, | Richmond, Va.”~~Surely on the least common of the maps of Richmond. We find but two copies in insittutional holdings -- one at the Huntington Library; the other among the substantial miniature book collection at a Virginia institution. The rear panel of the latter copy notes a different Hotel for distribution. This suggests if was printed up as a “give-away” to be distributed at hotels to visitors in the area who are attending the Yorktown Centennial Celebration.~~. Good binding.
