By Armour, Richard
New York: McGraw-Hill Book Company. Near Fine in Very Good dj. (c.1956). 2nd printing. Hardcover. (price-clipped) [minimal shelfwear to book, spine very slightly turned; the jacket is moderately edgeworn, with tiny tears and small bits of paper loss at several extremities, a bit of creasing along the bottom edge of the front panel]. (cartoon drawings) INSCRIBED ("All good wishes") and SIGNED by the author on the front endpaper. A humorous (and sexist in a way that would have appeared anodyne in 1956, but will perhaps rub today's sensibilities a bit raw) survey of famous femmes fatales of history -- Eve, Delilah, Helen of Troy, Clepatra, Lady Godiva, etc. -- all presented in the author's signature punny, non sequiturial style. The book's subtitle embodies its tongue-in-cheeky tone: "being a brief account of certain famous women, each of them richly endowed with some quality that drives men made, omitting no impertinent and unbelievable fact and based upon a stupendous amount of firsthand and secondhand research, some of it in books." Signed by Author .
