From the Foreword- "At the turn of the century, a young Scot, Walter Dalyrymple Maitland Bell, made his way into the wilderness of British East Africa, negotiated the hazards of local politics and terrain, shot an enormous number of elephants, and earned himself a special place in the history of African hunting. For his exploits he became known as 'Karamojo' Bell after the Uganda area of that name, which he roamed from 1902 to 1907. He went on to hunt in western Africa, the Belgian Congo, the Sudan, Ethiopia, and French Equatorial Africa, but it was those early days in Uganda which established his reknown.
