By Mabel L. Robinson; Eloise Burns Wilkin [illus.]
New York: The Macmillan Company, 1931. Very Good. New York: The Macmillan Company, 1931. First Edition. Octavo (20 cm); 186pp. 6 black and white plates with a color frontis, illus. throughout. Missing dust jacket. Boards full bound in green cloth with black stamping. Boards sunned at spine, with offset from previous shelfmates on both sides. Corners and spine ends bumped and rubbed. Page edges toned and interior lightly foxed, mostly at prelims. Signed and inscribed by Robinson at the first free endsheet: "To the Kramer household including Laddie, the hero's intimate friend. Mabel L. Robinson / May 15, 1931". We'd love to assume that Laddie was the inspiration for spunky Angus, but alas, we can only speculate. A Very Good copy.

Robinson was known for her children's books, many of which included dog companions who help the main characters on their adventures and shenanigans. Eloise Burns Wilkin became better known a decade later as the illustrator for the Little Golden Books. These Robin and Angus illustrations are some early examples of her work in print.
