John Frush Knox [1907-1997], a correspondent of Holmes, clerked for Supreme Court associate justice James McReynolds from 1936-1937. He was an avid diarist and produced a 978-page manuscript documenting his time with Reynolds, one of the earliest memoirs of a Supreme Court clerk. The work was published posthumously as The Forgotten Memoir of John Knox: A Year in the Life of a Supreme Court Clerk in FDR's Washington (2002).
