Portland, ME: O.K. Gerrish, 1880. Very Good. [Portland, ME]: [O.K. Gerrish], n.d. [ca. 1880s]. Collection of seven broadsides, handbills, and pamphlets promoting different strains of fruit on offer by the Portland agent O.K. Gerrish, all but two adorned with woodcut illustrations. Most examples have previous folds and a few small chips, the "Russian Apricot" broadside the most worn with vertical separation across the middle with small loss affecting text and meaning, else a Very Good, bright collection. Attractive and visual collection of promotional material all about fruit: the Greely Plum "surpasses any plum I have ever known," while the arctic apple "surpasses, in size, beauty, and quality, any late keeping winter apple yet introduced." The small pamphlet promoting the "New White Grape the Jessica" includes ten testimonials, including that of P.G. Dempsey, President of the Fruit Growers' Association of Ontario: "It is *simply delicious.*...Everybody will want such an elegant table grape."
