Accompanying the book are a group of notes and letters all centering around a dinner party celebrating the book's publication at the Jean Louis Restaurant in the Watergate Hotel on September 14, 1987. Included here are a printed invitation to the event along with a "confidential list" of invited guests with Chief Justice William Rehnquist and Associate Justices Sandra Day O'Connor and Lewis F. Powell as confirmed attendees, and Justice Scalia and the Honorable Robert Bork declining.

Also included are:
- Four pages of hand-written remarks from Larry Hughes addressing the dinner party and celebrating the publication of the book
- A thank you letter to Hughes on Supreme Court letterhead signed by Rehnquist
- A signed thank you letter to Hughes from Justice Lewis Powell
- Two thank you cards from Nan Rehnquist, the dedicatee of the book
- A card from Mary Ann "Andy" Stewart, widow of Justice Potter Stewart, again thanking Hughes for a lovely evening
- TLS from William Rehnquist to Hughes dated October 11, 1988 declining a speaking engagement due to oral arguments but remarking on the healthy advance sales of the paperback edition of his book

A compelling grouping of material giving a brief look into the world of 1980s publishing and the Rehnquist court just one year after his confirmation as Chief Justice, having served as Associate Justice since 1972.
