He served in various administrative roles and is best remembered for his scholarly integrity and his monumental work Târîh-i Atâ. This five-volume history of the Ottoman administrative system, is one of the most comprehensive and reliable sources on the Ottoman bureaucracy.
The Tarih-i Ata covers the entire span of Ottoman history from Osman Gazi to Sultan Abdülaziz, including descriptions of key buildings, biographies of grand viziers, sheikh-ul-Islams, scholars, scribes, financial officers, and other high-ranking officials trained in the Enderûn, the elite education system.
