Cleveland/New York: The World Publishing Company. Very Good+ in Fair dj. 1946. First Edition. Hardcover. [good sound copy with only light shelfwear, one-time owner's "bought" and "ended" dates written at upper corner of verso of front endpaper, dampstain at edge of rear endpaper, light soiling to fore-edge of text block; the jacket is heavily edgeworn with bits of paper loss at most corners, internally dampstained but showing externally only at rear panel (stained and soiled) and rear flap; presents reasonably well in new mylar]. Sixty-nine "masterpieces of horror and the supernatural," selected by Boris Karloff, who has also provided introductory notes and comments for each story. A great collection with lots of classics, by an international selection of authors ranging from Poe to Lovecraft, with other contributors including John Collier, August Derleth, W.W. Jacobs, Arthur Conan Doyle, Thomas Burke, Guy de Maupassant, William Irish, and many more. (Note that the jacket blurb, apparently written by somebody who couldn't count, refers to the book's "72 selections.") .
