The records of the private schools tell a story which is quite different from that of public schools. Unhampered by the control of the town meeting and little influenced by traditional modes of procedure, these institutions were free to grow with the town. This they did as conditions suggested. The result was a remarkably comprehensive program of instruction, which appears to have met every contemporary educational need.
