The scandal and imprisonment meant that there were no further official editions published in English until this edition in French, Many pirated editions appear over the years making this work one of the most prosecuted and banned books in history. The protagonist, Fanny Hill recounts her youth and various scandalous stages of her life. Cleland exemplified the use of euphemism, a technique which enhanced its popularity to soar.
