By [Thomas Warton]
London: W. Owen / J. Barrett, 1750. Very Good. London: Printed for W. Owen at Homer's Head near Temple-Bar; and sold by J. Barrett in Oxford, 1750. Third Edition. Quarto (25cm.); removed; 16pp. (A-B4). Title page (serving as upper wrapper) a bit ink stained and starting to separate, textblock uniformly toned, else Good to Very Good.

The young Thomas Warton (1728-1790) wrote "The Triumph of Isis" in response to William Masons's 1749 poem "Isis, an Elegy," which "cast aspersions on the academic society of Oxford, chiefly on the ground of its Jacobite leanings" (DNB). In his retaliatory poem Warton praised Oxford's Gothic architecture and the accomplishments of its graduates. The poem went through three editions in quick succession, gaining Warton a "wide academic reputation" (DNB XX, p. 889).
