Chushak (Empty) is a photozine, an integral part of a multimedia artistic-documentary piece. mixing archive photography, documentary photography, personal testimonies, and hard data, to weave a narrative about the profound impact inflicted on the indigenous communities of Ecuador caused by the closure of thousands of schools, after the reordering of the educational offer by the government. These educational centers, now deserted, were once the bearers of the ancestral knowledge of these communities. "Today, 10 years later the community schools -the schools of the indigenous peoples and nationalities of Ecuador- are still closed. Today, these spaces, where the transfer of knowledge, cosmovision, and community organization converge, remain closed. Today those schools are silent, violated and forgotten.
