By [WW2][JOURNALISM]
Illinois: On Base via United Press, 22nd February 1944. 33cm. Single typewritten mimeo'd sheet of newsprint, printed in red and black. 2pp. Light soiling to front page, otherwise a very good example of an extremely ephemeral object.

The stenciled headline reads "9 Jap Ships Sunk, Eniwetok Isle Captured, Bomb Paramushiro" and makes note of Admiral Nimitz's heightened agression against Japanese occupation of the Kuriles. Page 2 records that Fleet Admiral Osami Nagano, and General Sugiyama of the Imperial Japanese Forces had both been dismissed from their posts, and "will commit Hara Kiri as the result, probably by Hirohito's order."
An extremely ephemeral piece of "Home Base" printed journalism aimed at keeping military men in training approsed of the war efforts they would shortly be joining. Only one record for this publication in OCLC, at the Wisconsin Veteran's Museum.
