Provenance: Ownership ex libris to front pastedown and signature at head of title page of the noted English atheist and freethinker Joseph Mazzini Wheeler (1850-1898). Wheeler was best known as the compiler of "A Biographical Dictionary of Freethinkers of All Ages" in which he described David Strauss as "A devoted servant of truth, his mind was always advancing" (pp. 307-8).
