Its its structure, this orderly manuscript notebook of disciplined reading in the theology of prolific and influential author Campegius Vitringa (1659-1722), follows closely that of Vitringa’s Aphorismi quibus fundamenta sanctæ theologiæ comprehenduntur: in usum scholarum privatarum (Johannem Gyselaar, 1688; translated as Fundamentals of Sacred Theology), some 25 chapters in all (marked Lectio 1 to 197 in margins). The numbered pages summarize the chapters, with marginal glosses on occasion; and citations or other references are entered in two columns on the unnumbered interleaving.
