Squaw Man

[Boston, Massachusetts]: Hollis Street Theatre, 1906. Promotional pamphlet for the Boston run of "The Squaw Man", a 1905 Western stage play written by Edwin Milton Royle and starring William Faversham in the starring role. The basic premise follows an English Captain who buys a ranch in the American Old West, and falls in love with the daughter of a Native American leader. The marriage causes social strife, and ultimately leads to her death. He returns to England with his child and marries a British woman. The story was tremendously popular with the American public, and led to numerous adaptations (a book, a musical, and several Cecil B. DeMille films). The present pamphlet markets the play several months after it premiered in New York, as a "Virile American Play" and a "strong emotional comedy drama". Includes a brief pitch, and a photograph of the cast in costume during one of the scenes. The back of the pamphlet features quotes from some of the characters. Illus. bifolium printed in green and red (7" by 5.5").
