Triste Fin Que Tuvo en Mexico, Pues Fue Presto Fusilado, Don Gustavo el Fatidico, el Famosos Ojo Parado [Verso title: El Fusilamiento de Ojo Parado en la Ciudadela de Mexico]
- Mexico: Antonio Vanegas Arroyo, 1913
Mexico: Antonio Vanegas Arroyo, 1913. Good. [Mexico]: [Antonio Vanegas Arroyo], n.d. [but 1913]. First Edition. Pictorial broadsheet (28.5x20cm) printed on pink stock. Rather significantly soiled with shallow chipping along margins not approaching text, else Good to Very Good.
Elegy to the recently-murdered Gustavo A. Madero (1875-1913), also known as "Ojo Parado" due to his glass eye. Madero was brother of Mexican president Francesco I. Madero. During the coup d'etat of 1913 Madero was arrested and handed over to followers of the rebellion's leader Felix Diaz, who tortured and killed him. The verso of this broadside features an illustration attributed to Jose Guadalupe Posada showing the prostrate Madero after his murder--this illustration would have had to be recycled, given that Posada died a month before Madero's demise. The verso is adorned with a small photographic portrait of Madero surrounded by text describing the events leading up to his death.
