New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company. Fair. (c.1932). First Edition. Hardcover. (lacking the original dust jacket, but encased in a nice-looking facsimile reproduction of same; see 2nd image posted with this listing) [wear to edges and extremities, both hinges cracked, spine slightly turned, internally clean]. Dahlberg's second novel (after "Bottom Dogs," published in 1929), "a story of subways and two-bit lives, furtive love affairs, crowds, movies, coney-island broads and young hopes without a chance and cheap boarders and queer uncertain friendships." This is the very uncommon true first edition as published in the U.S. (the first British edition was published the following year by G.P. Putnam's Sons). NOTE again that this book bears a FACSIMILE dust jacket, to serve the dual purpose of protecting the book from further wear and enhancing its appearance on the shelf; its presence has not been factored in to our pricing. .
