By Burger, John F.
Huntington WV: Standard Publications, Incorporated. Near Fine. 1947. First Edition. Hardcover. (no dust jacket) [no significant wear to book, just some light age-toning to the edges of the text block]. (B&W photographs) INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the dedication page: "To Maurice Smith / with compliments & best / wishes from the author / John F. Burger / Lusaka / 7/6/55." The book's subtitle, on the front cover only, is: "Hunting the Africa Buffalo," which is all the description necessary, I should think. The author (1882-1984), a native of South Africa, was more or less the epitome of the "Great White Hunter"; according to one source he "had probably more experience shooting African buffalo than any other person," and the book itself, the first of a half-dozen he wrote about his adventures in killing, is considered "the bible on hunting the African buffalo." Books signed by Burger seem to be exceedingly uncommon; none at all are offered online at the time of cataloguing. (Lusaka, by the way, is the capital of Zambia, which was still under British colonial rule and known as Northern Rhodesia at the time the book was signed.) Signed by Author .
