[Racine, Wisconsin]: Whitman Publishing Co, 1938. Very good. Short tear to bottom of spine. Ink stamp and sticker of later owner to inside of lower cover.. A complete, uncut copy of a paper doll book for children of a ventriloquist doll, "Edgar Bergen's Charlie McCarthy". What sets this paper doll book apart is that it has a movable mouth that can be attached to the doll. There is a second doll on the lower cover without the same feature. Inside the book are two more dolls (one with, one without a movable mouth) and one leaf with an additional outfit and accessories. In total there are four dolls and five leaves of card (16.75" by 10.75") bound at the left-hand edge with black cloth tape and staples. Edgar Bergen (1903-1978) was a ventriloquist and comedian known for popularizing modern ventriloquism.
