The Babe Ruth Story (The Scarce Pictorial Booklet Issued by Allied Artists Productions Just Before the Film's 1948 Release)

  • Pictorial wrappers
  • Allied Artists, 1948
By Bob Considine and George Callahan (Screenplay)
Allied Artists, 1948. Pictorial wrappers. Near Fine. A wonderful piece of baseball --and specifically Babe Ruth-- ephemera. The uncommon official booklet, issued just before the film's premiere in late July of 1948, of "The Babe Ruth Story", Hollywood's "semi-fictional biopic" of the great slugger, starring William Bendix as Babe Ruth. Ironically, the film was released just 3 weeks before Babe Ruth's death from throat cancer on August 16th, 1948. The booklet, crisp and clean in its stapled pictorial wrappers, has held up very well and is in superb condition. Bright and Near Fine, filled with dozens of black-and-white photos, many of Babe Ruth himself on the set of the film. The screenplay for the film was written by Bob Considine (who "co-wrote" the book on which the film was based) and George Callahan, the film was both produced and directed by Roy Del Ruth.
