Manual For Revolutionary Leaders
- Detroit: Black & Red, 1972
Detroit: Black & Red, 1972. First American Edition. Octavo. 23cm. Publisher's illustrated bronze card wraps. 261pp. Light edgewear, a little scuffing to the glossy card surface in places, with some wear to the spine ends resulting in two short closed tears at the head and tail of the front joint, strong and solid; internally clean, illustrated throughout. An about very good copy of a book prone to visible wear.
The first printing of this satirical piece of anarchist excoriation of contemporary leftist revolutionary ideals. Written under a pseudonym by Fredy Perlman, the pen name being a play on "Machiavelli"; the facade of revolutionary gusto was intended to highlight the blatant manipulative powerplay at work in the left's calls for radical action in a society unable to separate itself from mindless, uncontrolled consumption. The first printing however was seized upon as revolutionary truth by so many readers that Perlman reprinted the work with an additional section "The Sources of M. Velli's Thought" which made the satirical element abundantly clear. An ambitious and cutting piece of social hacking.
