(Red Badge Detective) Series Uncommon mystery novel set in "Westchester's most conservative department store," as a member of the store's advertising department is murdered -- a crime, the investigating detective learns, with "a certain pattern to it -- a correct timing and a touch of the dramatic -- the formula for success in advertising." The author published three mystery novels between 1946 and 1948 (this being the middle one), and that was apparently that. .
