Vallejo was among a group of sympathetic writers invited to view the young socialist republic. The trip mostly transpired via train, although Vallejo split from his party to mix among the people. He reflects on every aspect of everyday life and the politics of the Soviet experiment in such a way to see it as a new way of living in the world.
