Private investigator Al Colby, hired to find a man who had disappeared from Pasadena five years earlier, follows the "very, very cold trail of the very, very mysterious Mr. Parker" to Mexico City, and from thence to Santiago, Chile, where he finds himself "mixing it with a fistful of Chilean grandees, a beautiful and agreeable American named Ann Farrell and someone -- he didn't quite know who -- who seemed intent on killing him before he got a line on his quarry." Dodge wrote two more mysteries featuring Al Colby, published over the following two years, and then abandoned the character. .
