Our Native Herbs! The Great Blood Purifier and Liver Regulator, 200 days treatment $1..

  • Washington, DC: Alonzo O. Bliss Company, 1892
By Alonzo O. Bliss Company
Washington, DC: Alonzo O. Bliss Company, 1892. Very Good. Washington, DC: Alonzo O. Bliss Company (Successors to the Dr. Perkins Medical Co.), 1892. Octavo (20cm); machine stitched self-wrappers; 24pp. Light wear to margins, stock uniformly browned due to inferior paper quality, faint damp stain to upper wrapper, else a Very Good example.

Early trade catalog issued by the longstanding Washington purveyors of blood purifying tonics "composed of herbs, barks and roots." The upper cover employs a diverse array of typefaces--for "Liver regulator" the typesetter has chosen a handsome and deeply serifed shadow font that really makes the words pop. The internal contents provide descriptions for different conditions (of the blood, the skin, etc), followed by testimonials of satisfied customers, many in Washington and Virginia, but as far afield as Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri.

No copies that exactly match this example separately catalogued in OCLC as of June, 2025, though we find an example for 1893 (159,451 boxes sold!). Our copy, from 1892, only sold 155,375 boxes.
