United States, 1910. Fourteen photographs measuring approximately 6 ¾ x 8 ½ inch and smaller. Brown Brothers stamps and manuscript captions verso. Very good contrast; some photos with much marginal damage and chipping; overall very good.. Fourteen photographs of men and women at work in an unnamed shoe factory, dated 1905–1910. Most have captions at least naming the task that the workers are engaged in (mainly heeling), though some have more descriptive captions; one describes how the heeling machine works, and another identifies the leather the workers were using a shark skin. By this point, shoe manufacturing was well past its traditional handicraft days; shoes had been manufactured almost exclusively using machines since the late 19th century. Of interest to scholars of manufacturing history.
