Chicago, Illinois: National Kindergarten and Elementary College, 1924. Very good. Light dust soiling. Remnants of scotch tape to upper cover. A little chipping/wear to extremities.. Photo-illustrated promotional booklet for the National Kindergarten and Elementary College, a school for young women teachers interested in teaching Kindergarten and early childhood education. Founded in 1886 by educator Elizabeth Harrison (1849-1927), a pioneer in developing the Kindergarten curriculum. Today, we take the presence of early childhood education for granted, but in the 1920s the practice was still largely nascent, and teachers were just starting to see the value of "learning through play". This booklet provides a look at the school's facilities, and the young woman teachers in the school's library, dining room, and dormitories. Also shows the kindergarten classes in action, with small children playing with dolls, caring for rabbits, building doll houses, playing with a May Pole, and on the playground. Single vol. (7" by 10"), pp. 28, photo illus., in original printed wrps. secured with dark olive green cord at left-hand edge.
