Chicago, Illinois: Kotex, 1942. Very good. Toning, light dust soiling, a couple short tears/nicks.. A scarce set of advertising ephemera charting a marketing campaign by Kotex targeting teen girls on the cusp of womanhood. Includes a guide to puberty and menstruation titled "As One Girl to Another", as well as ten (10) printed leaflets promoting Kotex and the booklet. Provides very interesting insight into how the company marketed its products to teen girls. Topics covered in the booklet include growing up; tracking your period; warning signs for an upcoming period; tampons vs. pads; and how to attach a napkin to a sanitary belt. Dispels myths such as the myth that you shouldn't, or can't, exercise on your period. Includes friendly illustrations throughout to make the subject less intimidating. The ten (10) leaflets each measure approx. 7.5" by 6", are illustrated, and advertise the booklet, Kotex napkins, Quest brand deodorant powder, and Kurb brand tablets for period pain (all from the Kotex brand). Booklet is single vol. (8" by 5.5"), pp. [20], illus., in original illus. wrps with illus. of two girls sitting on bench on front. An interesting recurring theme is how the brand preys on the insecurities of young women when it comes to the opposite sex: "A girl has to be careful ... because, my dear, men have a keener olfactory sense than women!
