A set of five (5) salesman sample books of letterheads and billheads, including dozens of samples published between the 1890s and 1957. Provides a comprehensive look into how businesses and individuals advertised their brands via their correspondence, and also a look into job printing at this time. Interesting to see how paper companies and job printers approached the design process. The five (5) items include:

"Combination Sheets Letter Heads Bills Etc.". New York: Lutz & Sheinkman, 1890s. Single vol. (5.5" by 8.5"), approx. 40 leaves of lithographed letter and bill heads, some illus. with images or logos, in original illus. covers bound at foot.

"Samples. Lithographed Letter Heads from The Gillies Lithographing & Printing Co." Rochester, c.1905. Single vol. (11" by 8.5"), thirteen (13) illus. letter/billheads stapled in original printed blue wrps with inserted typewritten sales letter on illus. letterhead inside front cover.

"Strathmore Letterhead Papers". [West Springfield]: Strathmore, c.1954. Ten (10) letterheads, most with logos or illustrations, including one with a photographic illustration, in original textured paper folder printed in blue and grey with thistle logo in the middle. Pencil design drafting on back cover.

"Expressive Letterhead Papers". West Springfield: Strathmore, 1950s. Single vol. (12" by 9.5"), ff. [8], with approx. 3 samples pasted on each leaf, in original printed wrps with seal of the J.L.N. Smythe Company on upper wrapper.

"12 Grand Award Letterheads of 1957". Stevens Point: Whiting-Plover Paper Company, 1958. Eight (8) letterheads housed in original paper folder illus. with image of flock of birds on front.
