Tipped to the front free endpaper is a one-page TYPED LETTER SIGNED by Eliot dated 30 December 1949 to Rudolph Duder thanking him for his Christmas greeting and "also to let you know of my continued remembrance of your attentions (including the opportunity for a nap) which did so much to ease the strain of my days in Hamburg."
