Beaumont Newhall's major retrospective. Newhall (1908-1993) played a significant role in developing the two most respected centers of photographic studies: The Museum of Modern Art in New York City and The George Eastman House in Rochester, New York. He was the first curator of photography at The Museum of Modern Art and the second director of The George Eastman Museum. His book "The History of Photography, 1839 to the Present," has become a standard general history of photography.
