Spines in brown leather binding with gilt lettering on red labels, with volume numbers gilt on a green label (Vol. I) or a yellow label (Vol. II). Boards are bound in same brown leather, with heavy shelf wear and scuffing to covers and board edges. Several small-to-midsize stains on boards, heaviest on front cover of Vol. I. Splitting along joints, which has resulted in the front board of Vol. I becoming partially detached. Bumping to fore corners of both volumes, resulting in exposed boards. Cracking to leather of spine panel. Vol. I head of spine is chipped away, exposing the top of the text block binding. Text block shows expected age toning, which is dark on page edges and lighter on page faces throughout both volumes. Some scuffing and shelf wear visible on text block edges. Several small stains on edges of Vol. I text block. Foxing present throughout. Bookplate from former owner on front pastedowns. Pricing info from former seller written in pencil on front pastedowns. Name of former owner in black ink on title page (Vol. I) and front pastedown (Vol. II). Inscribed by a different former owner in black ink on front flyleaf of Vol. II.

CONTENTS: Vol. I ([10], 350, [20] pages) -- Vol. II "Part the Second" ([6], 351-688, [58] pages). Shelved in Room A. In both volumes, pagination is irregular, with unnumbered pages appearing every so often between numbered pages. All leaves appear present, and book contents are continuous and whole. 1400232.
