New York: Sturgis & Walton, 1912. Hardcover. Very Good. Hardcover. Alexander Frederick Richard Wollaston (1875 - 1930) was an English medical doctor, ornithologist, botanist, climber, and explorer. He participated in the British Ornithologists' Union Expedition to the Snow Mountains of Netherlands New Guinea in 1910-11 to climb the highest mountains and to collect biological and ethnological specimens; although, the expedition was largely unsuccessful due to problems with Dutch authorities. This book is Wollaston's account of the expedition. A few years later he led more successful expedition to New Guinea and in 1921 he took part in an expedition to Mount Everest. He won several medals and awards for his expeditions. Sadly, he was fatally shot by a student after accepting a position as tutor at King's College, Cambridge (Wikipedia).
