New London, Connecticut: Bolles & Williams, 1848. Fair. Dust soiling, water staining, wear and chipping to wrappers, large tear to foot of spine.. A meticulously kept manuscript register of student attendance, written in skilled penmanship by an unidentified teacher between 1846 and 1848 ("W.A. Gallup"?). Includes a title page with stylized typography. The register is designed in a grid, and records the following information: student name; present/absent; month; day; number of days attended; the weather for each day; and notable events (e.g. "political meeting" or visit from friend of the teacher). A nice example of skilled penmanship and creative data organization in a pre-computer world. Single vol. (7.5" by 6.5"), approx. 14 blank leaves in original illus. wrps with image of beaver on upper wrapper and multiplication table on lower wrapper.
