By Dehn, Paul
New York: The Vanguard Press. Near Fine in Very Good dj. First American Edition. Hardcover. [minimal shelfwear to book, a nice clean copy; the jacket is lightly soiled, with a few teensy chips along the top edge of the front panel, light age-toning to spine and along edges of flaps]. INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the front endpaper: "To Bill Allyn -- / with love but no money! / Paul Dehn / Hollywood, 1964." "Divertissements of wicked wit and delicious wisdom" by this British screenwriter and film critic, who writes on many topics, a lot of them showbiz-related. "He serves us wine a la Madison Avenue, tosses up a brilliant riposte to Miss Nancy Mitford's examination of women of a certain class, provides a rare and meaty examination of Shakespeare as prepared by Olivier and Brando ... takes us to the movies for a clarification of the Monroe Doctrine, and tops it all with a dessert of Queen Bee, Joan Crawford." The jacket copy also notes, with refreshing modesty, that "he also has a Hollywood Oscar for a recent film" (this would be SEVEN DAYS TO NOON, for which he shared the Best Story Academy Award with his longtime partner James Bernard). He would go on to write (usually in collaboration) films such as GOLDFINGER, THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD, several of the original PLANET OF THE APES sequels, and (his last credit, a solo effort) MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS (1974). Signed by Author .
