n.p.: n.p., 1950. Near Fine. Whoever created this scrapbook was an ardent fan and admirer of the famed dancer and actress, Eleanor Powell. It is a compilation of 33 pages of photographs of Ms. Powell, most being color or black & white publicity stills and portraits, with a few signed or autographed items. There are also a few black & white informal photos. From Wikipedia: "Eleanor Torrey Powell (1912 – 1982) was an American dancer and actress. Best remembered for her tap dance numbers in musical films in the 1930s and 1940s, she was one of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's top dancing stars during the Golden Age of Hollywood. Powell appeared in vaudeville, on Broadway, and most prominently, in a series of movie musical vehicles tailored especially to showcase her dance talents, including Born to Dance (1936), Broadway Melody of 1938 (1937), Rosalie (1937), and Broadway Melody of 1940 (1940). She retired from films in the mid-1940s but resurfaced for the occasional specialty dance scene in films such as Thousands Cheer. This is a large scrapbook bound in burgundy leather with a black tooled design along the borders and middle of the front cover. It came with about 50 pages, with the scrapbook creator using only the 33 and leaving the remaining blank. The photos, generally 8 x 10 inches, are mounted, usually with one to a page, using photo corners designed for mounting pictures. Many of the photos are protected with tissue guards. This is a rather amazing tribute to this star of musicals from their most popular era. In about fine condition. Covers measure 12.5 x 14.25 inches. scrapbook pages measure 11.5 x 14 inches.
