New York/Cleveland: The World Publishing Company / An NAL Book. Near Fine in Near Fine dj. 1969. First printing. Hardcover. [a good sound copy with just a bit of wear at the spine ends; the jacket shows light handling wear, some minor creasing along the top edge of the rear panel, and a bit of crinkling at the spine ends]. Comic adventure/crime novel with a Depression-Era setting, about three ex-convicts (one recently paroled after serving 47 years in prison for murder) whose plans for going straight by setting themselves up in a general store in a little West Virginia town go seriously off the rails. Basis for the 1971 film of the same name, directed by Andrew V. McLaglen, that gave James Stewart one of his more interesting late-career roles. .
