Trade PB Volume I of a report on blacklisting in the entertainment industry (Volume II dealt with TV and radio), conducted by a civil liberties thinktank funded in large measure by the Ford Foundation. Its "staff of ten reporters and researchers collected facts in Hollywood and New York. They spent the next eight months interviewing persons on both Coasts who had first-hand knowledge of the situation. In all, almost five hundred persons were interviewed." This systematic approach yielded the first documented and widely-disseminated proof that blacklisting did, in fact, exist -- and for their efforts, the Fund was itself attacked by HUAC, with project director Cogley hauled up before the Committee and forced to defend the report. .
