Garden City NY: Doubleday, Doran & Company, Inc.. Fair. 1931. First Edition. Hardcover. (lacking the original dust jacket, but encased in a COLOR PHOTOCOPY of same; see 2nd image posted with this listing) [well-worn book, with heavy soiling to covers and edges of text block, front hinge cracked, fraying to spine ends, random ink notes on both endpapers, etc. and etc.]. Fourteen short stories in a somewhat Ring Lardner/Damon Runyon-ish vein, by the noted Georgia-born Hollywood screenwriter/producer/director and native wit. The stories were all published in various magazines, including The Saturday Evening Post and The Smart Set, between 1925 and 1931. (Dozens more of Johnson's early stories remain uncollected, if that gives anybody any ideas.) NOTE again that this book bears a COLOR PHOTOCOPY of the original dust jacket, to serve the dual purpose of protecting the book from further wear and enhancing its appearance on the shelf; its presence has not been factored in to our pricing. .
