We know that Jefferson had a copy, as two year later Blodget sent him an appendix of 4 leaves “chiefly respecting the Cotton manufactory” [www.founders.archives.gov/documents/Jefferson/99-01-02-79]. Blodget referred to corporations as “minor republics”, and argued that commercial ties -- “incorporated monied commonwealth associations” -- transformed otherwise quarrelsome citizens into co-investors with shared interests [Economica, 20]. An important treatise on the economic theories of the young Republic. (Sabin, 5956; Howes, B 537).
