Beautiful desert and railway map of Egypt centered on the Nile and the 120 mile proposed Suez canal. Provinces are listed and noted in color. Sand dunes are finely engraved with many camel routes and trails included. Arabs Bay (Plinthimetes Sinus) and 'Bedwin' routes noted in the West. Part of the Levant in the Eastern Mediterranean is included and hand colorized in green. Part of Saudi Arabia and Akaba (Jordan) noted. As well as the Eastern road to 'Mekka'. Seven distance scales and a table gives the translation for ten Arabic names. James Wyld Senior (1790-1836) was a distinguished British mapmaker known for producing maps and globes. He served as Geographer to George IV and William IV. He was a founding member of the Royal Geographical Society and introduced lithography techniques to his production. His son James Wyld Junior (1812-1887) was the official geographer to Queen Victoria. This lovely map of is a fine example of his work.
