An early and important posthumous collection of the writings and life of the revivalist preacher and philosopher. Edited by Samuel Hopkins, who also wrote the short biography. This volume was published the same year as Hopkins' first major work, "An Inquiry Concerning the Promises of the Gospel" and coincides with a period in which he was identified with a new hyper-Calvinist movement in New England variously called "New Divinity, Consistent Calvinism, or simply Hopkinsianism." (ANB). The volume here represents a major step in the development of Edwards' legacy as well as an important springing off point for Hopkins, who would also go on to be known for his advocacy for abolition in the first major antislavery movement in America.

Includes:

1. The Life of the Late Reverend, Learned, and Pious Mr. Jonathan Edwards
2. Sermons on Various important Subjects
