Las Vegas: Gambler's Book Club. Near Fine. (c.1973, 1933). Reprint. Softcover. [nice clean book, faint external wear, former owner's embossed stamp on title page (see Notes)]. Trade PB (B&W illustrations) Reprint of a book originally published in 1933, with the cover blurb noting that "since that time hundreds of books about Bridge have been published [but] none mention cheating, while almost every one written about Gin or Poker has something to say about advantage playing." (Nice euphemism, that!) However, whatever the game, "when the play is for money, marbles or chalk, there is always a possibility that something is going on! The best protection is knowledge, an awareness of the ways to cheat. ... Some of the cards illustrated are obsolete, but the text is as up to date as the day it was written." The embossed ownership stamp on the title page indicates that this copy came from the library of Alfred Sheinwold, one of the founders of contract bridge, and known in later life as "the Grand Old Man of Bridge." (The purchaser will, of course, be expected to use this book responsibly, at the risk of being haunted by the ghost of Mr. Sheinwold.) .
