Inscribed and signed on Vol. I front free endpaper by the editor Samella Lewis to contributor Lois Mailou Jones, "Many thanks for your contribution," with Jones' ex libris, illustrated by herself, on both front pastedowns. Vol. II front free endpaper additionally signed by her. Jones' two contributions, the paintings "Haitian Scene" and "Marche'Haiti," appear in full color on pp. 97 and 98 in the first volume, accompanied by a photographic portrait of the artist at work in front of a group of her students. Other luminaries represented in this Black Arts series include Betye Saar, Jacob Lawrence, and Elizabeth Catlett, among many, many others.
